WE PUT OUR BEST FOOT FORWARD - In everything that we do. We are competing on a global scale, for limited resources and a future with fewer and fewer jobs. We know, that in this economy failure equates to lost opportunities. We put our best foot forward, accepting no excuses and keeping our eyes on victory in academia and in our pursuit of life, liberty and happiness. We enjoy reading the WSJ, NY Times, NY Daily News, Crains New York and Bloomberg News so we are well informed. We are young and know that reading, and learning will pay off for us as long as we are focused.

Classroom Culture - Leadership for the 21st Century
WE TREAT EACH OTHER WITH RESPECT - We know that words hurt and that fists leave bruises. We are not statistics and we keep our hands, feet and objects to ourselves. We don't settle for less and we don't leave each other behind. We use kind words to pick our team up, we help each other with our studies. We don't lie, steal, cheat or break the law. We are citizens of our community, schools and nation. We are leaders and our goal is championship. Through hard work, we know we will achieve.
WE REPRESENT BROOKLYN AND NYC - We are from the County of Kings ok? The finest Borough and the greatest city in the world. We are the best and brightest, we are the future. We work hard in school and we play hard too. We come from a legacy of band programs in Brooklyn which have been known to be the best in the world. We represent for the many bands who have come, gone, stayed, rebranded, rebuilt and those who have still yet to be built. Most importantly, we represent JSMLI - The Brooklyn Music & Leadership Institute! Don't forget to donate, we still need to provide service and need equipment.
LIFE IS A CONVERSATION by. J Charles E. Brown
#Concentration - The great filter is education. How you carry yourself from this point forward will determine your success. Views from the tallest skyscrapers, dinners at the most expensive restaurants, social gatherings of all types are reserved for those who learn quick and work efficiently. You want to take expensive trips? Why? Not before you have an education which will allow you to have intelligent conversation no matter where you are in world. #ACadence
To be a New Yorker represents your understanding that we live in the best city in the world. As old as NYC is, the same narrative plays continuously like a broken record. You'll either get with the program or be priced out. You'll either get with the program or struggle in the great city. You'll either get with program or be replaced by the thousands upon thousands of people who move to New York City, with a pocket full of money everyday. You can't want it all without work ethic, that's reality, it doesn't happen that way.
To be from the boroughs - or to be a Brooklynite is an honor in deed. The County of Kings, the most populous borough with 2.5M residents and climbing. School isn't your hater! School isn't your barrier. School is your ONLY chance to understand protocol, and as you push back against the system you must understand - Their will always be a boss, someone in charge of you, even if you're a boss, someone will be in charge of you. Someone will always tell you what to do, see that's if you want to make money. If you're the best, someone is better. We all pay taxes and eventually we all get old.
Can you have life figured out if you don't read books, newspaper or conduct your own research? Slow down and understand that life is full of adversity, it might seem easy now, and enjoy it because soon you will find yourself facing challenge, upon challenge. Adversity and victory. Some already know the story of life all too well.
School is a system - go with the grain and have it easy go against the grain and have it difficult. Try - push yourselves to the standard of pure excellence. If you haven't been to Manhattan- ask your parents what it takes to get and keep a job in the jungle.
Prepare your mind. Action causes reaction. Come to class ready to work, because if you don't the only thing that will result is harder work - no fun. You can't wiggle out of it - work has to be done.
I want you to win, we're playing catch up. How do we get to our rightful seat as the kings and queens in Brooklyn? In music? Understand where you live, no one lives as rich as NYC. Then take your understanding and turn on the higher functions of your brain and simply apply yourself. All you have to do is try. Understanding is all about trying. Don't give up on something that will let you see a red carpet...before you've even made it. Your next level starts now. What do you want to be when you grow up?
